Once, a boy named Sam found a jar of colorful candies. They looked sweet and delicious. Sam was very hungry and wanted them all. He reached into the jar and grabbed a huge handful. He squeezed his fingers tight to hold as many as he could.
But when he tried to pull his hand out, he could not. The neck of the jar was too narrow for his big fist. He pulled and pulled, but his hand stayed stuck. He began to cry because he did not want to leave any candy behind.
His mother saw him and said, "Sam, just take one or two. Then your hand will come out easily."
Sam did not listen. He gripped the candies even tighter. In his stubborn greed, he refused to let go of even a single piece. Because he tried to grasp everything at once, he remained stuck until the jar slipped from his tired arm and shattered on the floor. The candies fell into the dirt, ruined and inedible. By trying to hold it all, he lost it all.
