Use of the Preposition “IN”

1. In for large locations.

Ex. Elephants live in the forest.

There are many historical places in India.

The headquarters of this company is in Delhi.

Here I have something extra for you to remember. You must not confuse between 'In' and 'Into'. 'In' indicates a location, while 'into' indicates movement to a location.

    2.In for times of day.

Ex. The sun rises in the morning.

They will come in the evening.

You will see me in the afternoon.

       "at night" is the exception.

    3.In for months, years and seasons.

Ex. They went to Manali in Summer.

Sashi visited here last in 2021.

We will finish the task in December.

    4.In for future time periods.

Ex. The product will be delivered in two hours.

I will come back in Two months.

    5.In for occupations and fields.

Ex. My friend is in the Indian Army.

Her husband is in business.

My brother is in sales.

    6.In for situations and states.

Ex. She is in trouble right now.

The children are playing in the rain.

    7.In for totals and arrangements.

Ex. There are a total of a hundred carpenters in this city.

We have thirty days in a month.

They have five rooms in the house.
