How to learn new words effectively? |
So the question is How to learn new words effectively so that you can use them daily when you need them?
Now one essential point to remember is that Our brains are wired for efficiency; they prioritize information perceived as relevant and actively used. Simply reading a word and its definition often isn't enough to signal its importance for long-term retention.
Firstly, read it loud the new words.
The moment you come across a new word, pronounce it out loud. Immediately follow this by listening to its correct pronunciation (using Google or a similar tool), and then say the word aloud yourself multiple times.
Secondly, read some examples of the words in sentences.
To grasp the meaning of the word you have to sense the meaning of it and that's only possible through the usage. Try to come across dialogues, and paragraphs of the new words asap, and not only read but also write. Create your sentences using those new words.
Thirdly, read the opposite words of these words.
Believe me, it is the best method and I use it often. When you read the opposite meaning you will build a connection with new words, and you can also read the synonyms. And the plus point is that you will end up remembering more words.
Fourthly, using flashcards to remember the words.
Flashcards are excellent ways to learn, practice, and memorize new words. As it is filled with images your brain can easily relate to the words, and it takes a few minutes to repeat a hundred cards. And you also play with the cards for better utilization.
Lastly and finally it is a bit of advice although it is super necessary that you should keep engaged with words by any means to signal your brain about it's importance.
You can do that by attending Wordquiz, word puzzles, or any word games, etc.
Don't just passively collect words; actively engage with them, make them your own, and watch as your vocabulary – and your confidence in using it – blossoms. The power to express yourself more richly and precisely is now in your hands. Start today!"
